La Reina 10th in State Trial Contest

A team from La Reina High School, the reigning Ventura County mock trial champion, finished 10th in its third consecutive appearance in the state competition.

Nineteen students from the all-girls Catholic school in Thousand Oaks competed against 27 California high schools in Sacramento last week. La Reina won the Ventura County Mock Trial competition last month.

Students play the roles of attorneys, witnesses and courtroom staff while a criminal case is argued. Real judges and attorneys act as scorekeepers. “The competition in Sacramento is tough,” said Ventura County Deputy Dist. Atty. Donald C. Glynn, who served as legal coach.

“But our kids performed well. I’m very happy with their performance.”

Senior Mary Lewinski won one of eight best attorney awards, Glynn said.
