AWARDS
NAACP Salute: Music legend Quincy Jones will receive the special Entertainer of the Year award at the 27th NAACP Image Awards ceremony, April 6 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. Jones, who produced this year’s Oscar telecast, will receive the award from his good friend Oprah Winfrey. Meanwhile, NAACP leaders, responding to the Rev. Jesse Jackson’s protest of this year’s Academy Awards because of the near exclusion of black nominees, are calling for a “nationwide tune-in” when the Image Awards are broadcast April 23 on Fox. The Image Awards--airing in prime time for the first time this year--recognize the contributions of African Americans in music, television and film.
