Voters Snub Water Bills to No Avail
When Garden Grove voters had a chance this week to choose between two possibilities for a water billing system, they picked neither.
On Tuesday’s ballot were two alternatives for how residents are charged for water consumption.
One, proposed by City Councilman Bob Dinsen, would have ensured that all users, whether large or small, would pay the same price per gallon.
A rival measure, backed by Mayor Bruce A. Broadwater and three other council members, proposed leaving the system as it is.
Residents defeated Dinsen’s proposal by 74% to 26%, then went on to vote against the current system, too, rejecting it by 51% to 49%.
The net result is no change. Because both measures failed, the Water Department will continue to use the existing system, Broadwater said Wednesday.
Advocates of the measures said voters may have been confused by the rhetoric on both sides.
