A Pacoima man who is married to singer Bonnie Pointer was sentenced Friday to 60 days in jail for violating parole following his conviction for assaulting his wife and her sister at a Christmas party.

Jeffrey Bownes, 43, was sentenced by Municipal Judge Michael Mink, who ordered him into immediate custody, said city prosecutor Michelle Lim.

The judge said Bownes failed to prove he had enrolled in a domestic violence counseling program as ordered, attended Narcotics Anonymous meetings or performed any of 280 hours of community service the judge required.

Another compliance hearing was scheduled for April 30.

A Hollywood jury convicted Bownes in February of battery and battery causing serious bodily injury for punching his wife and breaking the nose of her sister, June Pointer, during a Dec. 24 fight at June Pointer’s home.

Bonnie helped found the Pointer Sisters but left for a solo career about 10 years ago. June and sisters Anita and Ruth have since recorded the hit songs “Jump (For My Love),” “I’m So Excited” and “Neutron Dance.”
