Agoura Hills : Free Course to Teach Disaster Preparedness

A free, six-week disaster-preparedness course will begin Thursday in Agoura Hills.

Sponsored by the volunteer Agoura Hills Disaster Response Team, classes will be held at 7 p.m. Thursdays at Agoura High School, 28545 W. Driver Ave. The April 11 session will be held at the Agoura Hills Recreation Center, 30610 Thousand Oaks Blvd.

What to do before, during and after earthquakes will be discussed at the first session, including advice on what supplies and equipment are needed to safeguard life and property.

The order of the classes will vary depending on the availability of instructors. Classes will cover first aid, disaster psychology, dealing with hazardous materials, fire suppression and urban search and rescue.

An orientation session will be held on May 16 for those who want to join the Disaster Response Team. Those who complete the course will be eligible.
