Special Van a Boon to Health and Safety
Public health officials unveiled a new 40-foot-long Disaster Response Vehicle filled with medical and high-tech equipment to help the injured and coordinate relief efforts.
Ventura Mayor Jack Tingstrom and County Supervisor Susan K. Lacey unveiled the county Health Department’s van at Buenaventura Mall on Monday to help kick off National Public Health Week.
Despite the rain, members of the public showed up to take blood pressure and glucose tests, said Eileen Gordon, chief of public health education services.
The van, which cost about $175,000 and has medical examination and testing facilities, was paid for by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Centers for Disease Control.
As part of National Public Health Week, the Health Department will host a number of public health fairs throughout the county as well as at selected schools.
