Easter Egg Hunts, by the Dozen

Share

At last year’s Easter egg hunt in Rancho Santa Margarita, local teenagers hid 17,000 plastic eggs filled with candy. When a crowd of 7,000 hunters showed up to search, not one egg went undiscovered, organizers said.

This year, the event will feature 20,000 eggs and one change at the request of the teenage helpers: an egg hunt for them.

“We asked them what they wanted, and that’s what they said,” said Sharon Lander, youth director for the Community Activities & Services Assn., which is sponsoring the event. In addition to the egg hunt, there will be games, music, an arts and crafts fair and a baby goods swap meet.

The event is one of a dozen planned around the county on Saturday.

Anyone planning to spend Easter in a regional park is encouraged to arrive early. Robert G. Fisher, director of the county’s Harbors, Beaches and Parks, said the department expects overflow crowds, and parking is limited.
