In Brief
*** Jac Zinder, “Chairs I Have Known,” Catasonic. As a musician, Zinder channeled the eclectic, cheesy tastes he cultivated as operator of the Fuzzyland club into a neo-art-lounge style. This memorial collection (Zinder died in a 1994 car crash) is marked more by quirkiness than invention. But there’s an affectionate warmth, especially in a version of Brian Wilson’s instrumental “Pet Sounds.”
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
