Trash Scavengers

Re “Trash Truck Drivers May Be Told to Sell Recycling,” March 27.

I cannot believe people need to be “sold” on the idea [of recycling]. I think a lot of people put items out for recycling, but it’s not the city who picks the items up. It’s the people who come around with their shopping carts who do! This tells me that City Councilman Marvin Braude doesn’t realize why the city can only account for picking up 33% of its trash. If these people stayed out of our trash, and our neighborhoods for that matter, perhaps the recycling program would be more successful without Braude having to sell the idea door to door. The issue is not selling recycling, it’s making the very simple original program work the way it’s supposed to.
