Obituaries : Allan Joseph Leukuma; Longtime Teacher

Allan Joseph Leukuma, a longtime Oxnard schoolteacher, has died at the age of 50.

Leukuma died Tuesday in an Oxnard hospital after a brief illness.

He was born Feb. 6, 1946, in Litchfield, Minn., and had lived in Ventura County for the past 27 years, last residing in Camarillo.

He graduated from Mankato State University in Minnesota in 1968 and completed a master’s degree in education with a specialization in computers in instruction in 1990 at Cal State Northridge.

Leukuma was a teacher for the Oxnard School District and taught at Sierra Linda, Lemonwood and the now-closed Ramona School. He last worked as a fifth- and sixth-grade teacher at Lemonwood and was the school’s computer mentor.

He helped the Ventura County superintendent of schools with visual conferencing technology and helped bring computer technology to many of the Oxnard School District’s schools.

Leukuma was active in the First Lutheran Church of Camarillo and enjoyed restoring antique tractors and gas engines. He was also a member of the Oxnard Educators Assn.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Leukuma; a son, Christopher Leukuma of Camarillo; a daughter, Alanna Leukuma of Camarillo; his parents, Joseph and Adelyne Leukuma of Minneapolis; and three sisters, Betty Jane Hannemann, Alice Johnson and Mary Ann Leukuma, all of Minneapolis.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary in Camarillo.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church of Camarillo. Graveside services will follow at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo.
