WEEKEND TV : ‘ShoWest Awards’ Honors Travolta, Bullock

The Oscars traditionally mark the end of awards season on television. But this year, the awards shows just keep on coming. The latest is the premiere telecast of “The 1996 ShoWest Awards,” airing tonight at 7 on TNT.

Taped March 7 in Las Vegas, the special honors John Travolta (Male Star of the Year), Sandra Bullock (Female Star of the Year), Mel Gibson (Director of the Year), Cameron Diaz (Female Star of Tomorrow), Greg Kinnear (Male Star of Tomorrow) and Jonathan Taylor Thomas (Young Star of the Year). Also included are preview clips and interviews from the upcoming summer releases “Independence Day,” “Twister” and “The Rock.” Larry King is the host.

Mike Wallace speaks with Louis Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam, Sunday at 7 p.m on “60 Minutes” (2)(8). Farrakhan tells Wallace that he believes America is more corrupt than Nigeria and that the U.S. government is plotting to kill him.

Sunday’s movie offerings include the ABC drama “All She Ever Wanted,” at 9 p.m. on Channels 7 and 3. Marcia Cross (“Melrose Place”) stars as a woman with bipolar disorder who wants to have a baby.

HBO presents “The Grave,” at 8 p.m, a tongue-in-cheek suspense thriller starring Craig Sheffer, Gabrielle Anwar, Anthony Michael Hall and Eric Roberts.

The one-year anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing and job anxiety are discussed on the public affairs programs.
