Day Camp Vote Delay Pleases City Officials
City officials said Thursday that they are pleased with the County Board of Supervisors’ decision to postpone a vote on plans for a day camp at Laguna Niguel Regional Park.
The supervisors decided this week to schedule public hearings at the end of summer before taking action on the proposal, which would have established a facility to accommodate as many as 400 children within three years.
“I think they did the right thing, the smart thing,” Councilman Mark Goodman said. “I’m glad they’re taking some time to consider the environmental impacts.”
City officials expressed concern that the camp would have required rerouting of the Aliso Creek bike trail. “You just can’t eliminate or change a major trail like that without environmental clearance,” Goodman said.
Also, the camp would have offered activities such as horseback riding and go-cart operation that residents had said would have been obtrusive.
