New ‘Freedman Way’ Will be Considered
The City Council Tuesday will consider renaming a street in honor of the late philanthropist and developer Leo Freedman.
Under the proposal, Clementine Street-Manchester Avenue between Katella Avenue and Harbor Boulevard would become Freedman Way in February 1998. The existing Freedman Way is being renamed Disney Way to help motorists exiting the Santa Ana Freeway find Disneyland.
If the council proceeds with the plan to rename Clementine-Manchester in Freedman’s honor, a public hearing on the matter would be May 7.
Also Tuesday, the council will review a proposal to seek $700,000 in federal funds to teach construction skills to disadvantaged youth 16 to 24 years old. Participants in the “Youthbuild” program would help construct affordable housing.
