TAX FILING: For the half million of you out there who wouldn’t miss the social event of the year, the U.S. Postal Service is again beefing up its schedules at 10 stations from Glendale to Woodland Hills for Monday night’s tax deadline. Workers will take envelopes until midnight. . . . To find the drop-off nearest you, call (818) 908-0130.

YOUNG FLIERS: As many as 100 Valley kids may regularly fly airplanes, even though they’re too young to get licenses. . . . Unlike 7-year-old Jessica Dubroff (A1), they don’t undertake high-profile flights. Van Nuys flight instructor Richard Mend says they’re the sons and daughters of professional pilots and they learn to fly the same way baby boomers learned to drive, at their parents’ sides.

ARMENIAN HOPE: Soccer standout Cobi Jones of Westlake Village may need no introduction tonight in the debut of L.A.’s new professional soccer team, The Galaxy (C1). . . . But wait for the screams if reserve forward Harut Karapetyan, above, gets in the game. So great is the interest in the recently naturalized Glendale resident that the team held a special press conference for the Armenian media when he signed.

VALLEY ALUMNI: Three of the 13 UC Berkeley women competing today in the NCAA Western Regional Gymnastics Finals in UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion are from the Valley (C10). The teammates are from La Canada, Cleveland and North Hollywood high schools. . . . Former Valley gymnasts will also represent Stanford and Cal State Sacramento.

CHANGE IN ACADEMIA: Hot off the presses at Cal State Northridge is new stationery. . . . And it’s different. The university’s eight academic schools are now called colleges. The really big news? The 885 prefix becomes 677, but not until July 17.
