Wiz Shoots Past Rapids, 3-0

Vitalis “Digital” Takawira scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 71st minute, as the Kansas City Wiz defeated the Colorado Rapids, 3-0, Saturday at Kansas City, Mo.

Frank Klopas added the third goal for the Wiz (1-0), who outshot the Rapids (0-1), 23-8.

Colorado had only one shot on goal and that hit the post. Kansas City goalkeeper Pat Harrington posted the shutout without registering a save.

Tampa Bay 3, New England 2--Steve Pittman scored the game-winning goal in the 65th minute at Tampa Bay.

Ivan McKinley scored off a pass from Martin Vasquez in the 53rd minute to give the Mutiny (1-0) a 2-1 lead. Pittman made it 3-1 on an indirect free kick from a back heel pass by Colombian national team captain Carlos Valderrama.

Forward Rob Ukrop scored goals for the Revolution (0-1) in the 20th and 71st minutes.

Columbus 4, Washington D.C. 0--Brian McBride, the first player chosen in the Major League Soccer draft, scored two goals and assisted on one at Columbus, Ohio.

McBride scored the Crew’s second goal in the 29th minute and the final goal in the 88th minute. The former St. Louis University player, who spent last season in Germany, also assisted on a goal by Pete Marino early in the second half for the Crew (1-0).

D.C. United fell to 0-2.
