City Moves to Restore 1910 Hotel Building

The city will move forward with plans to create a historic district in an area along Brea Boulevard north of Ash Street, officials decided this week.

At a study session, the City Council directed its staff to solicit bids for the rehabilitation and relocation of the Brea Hotel, built in 1910. The hotel must be moved back from Brea Boulevard to accommodate the widening of the street, officials said.

The cost of moving the hotel and remodeling the building to approximate its original condition is estimated at about $1 million, said James R. Cutts, community development director.

Other structures included in the Heritage Block project are office and residential buildings from the early 1900s, Cutts said.

The city now will solicit bids from developers with experience in historic areas, Cutts said.
