Students Get Chance to Hear About Careers
Simi Valley High School students took a look into what could become their futures Tuesday when speakers from 73 career areas turned out to speak about their professions during Career Day.
Simi Valley Unified School District board President Judy Barry organized the event to help students choose career paths.
“Students need to think about their future while they’re going to school,” Barry said. “This gives them a real sense of purpose about why they’re taking classes, and helps give them direction and understanding.”
Nearly 150 speakers from the community attended the event for the school’s 1,800 students. Students selected the career areas they wanted to learn about and attended those discussions.
The most popular career area was the FBI, followed by psychology and medicine. There was also a lot of interest in the fields of education, animal keeping, oceanography and the performing arts.
The event has been held at Royal High School in the past but will now probably alternate between the two high schools, Barry said.
