BOMB BACKFIRES

A dry ice bottle bomb sent its creator to the hospital Monday when a 19-year-old Long Beach man tried to open the device to see why it hadn’t exploded, police said.

The unidentified man suffered lacerations to his right hand and arm, and was treated at a hospital. No one else was injured.

“He went to unscrew the cap when the bottle blew up in his hand,” police said.

Police have not decided whether to bring charges against the man, who witnesses say placed the bottle on a grassy area near Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and 12th Street about 1:30 p.m.
