School to Require Uniforms

Share

Students at Pacific Drive Elementary School will be required to wear uniforms this fall.

Schools in the Fullerton School District were given permission two months ago to impose mandatory dress codes, and Pacific Drive is the first to do so.

District officials said the dress code is part of a nationwide movement toward school uniforms. Officials at school districts that already require uniforms credit the dress code with reducing some discipline problems and say it makes school clothes cheap and eliminates fashion competition among students.

During the last 18 months, Pacific Drive staff members and parents investigated the possibility of requiring uniforms in the 1996-97 school year and found overwhelming support. Should parents decide they do not want their children to wear uniforms, however, the students will not be forced to do so.

District officials said the uniform will consist of white blouses and shirts and navy blue skirts, pants and shorts.
