JETHAWKS REPORT : Worley Gets Double A for Effort

Share

Bob Worley, the JetHawk pitcher who breezed through his first four starts with a California League-leading earned-run average of 0.34, was promoted Wednesday to the double-A Port City Roosters.

Worley will be on a plane to Wilmington, N.C., today.

“I’m glad to be out of A ball,” said Worley, who started last season in double A and was sent to the Cal League in midseason. “I was pretty much in control from the first pitch to the last.”

Worley had been a relief pitcher for the first four years of his career, but he struggled with the conversion to starter until this season.

In four starts, he gave up 20 hits and two runs in 26 1/3 innings. He had one streak of 15 consecutive innings without allowing a run. He was 3-0.

Worley will be replaced on the JetHawk roster by Clint Gould, a 24-year-old right-hander who started the season with the co-op Bakersfield Blaze in the Cal League and recently was moved to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in the Midwest League.

Chris Beck (3-0, 2.00 ERA), who has been pitching out of the JetHawk bullpen, will move into Worley’s slot in the rotation.

Third baseman Carlos Villalobos, who has made 11 errors, was given a day off Wednesday, Mike Lanza taking his place. Now only Shane Monahan and Jose Cruz Jr. have started all 20 games.
