Reds Send Down Two, Call Up Two
The Cincinnati Reds activated reliever Chuck McElroy from the disabled list and optioned pitcher Kevin Jarvis and outfielder Chad Mottola to triple-A Indianapolis. The Reds will call up Eric Owens from Indianapolis to play left field and bat leadoff. . . . Montreal center fielder Rondell White, injured Saturday while making a diving catch and crashing into the outfield wall, was put on the 15-day disabled list because of a bruised kidney. . . . Right-hander Mark Kiefer, who balked home the winning run in Milwaukee’s loss to Seattle on Saturday, was designated for assignment, as was right-hander Cris Carpenter. . . . Oakland put reliever Jim Corsi on the 15-day disabled list because of a pulled groin muscle suffered Saturday against the Tigers. Corsi entered the game in the eighth inning with a runner at second. He strained his groin while warming up and never threw a pitch. The A’s recalled pitcher Mark Acre from triple-A Edmonton. . . . Players and owners are to meet informally today in New York, with management awaiting a new counter-proposal from the union. Two sources, speaking on the condition they not be identified, said the union probably would not present a new plan.
