Trainer Bobby Frankel wasn’t crazy about the ride Torch Rouge got in the $200,000 San Francisco Mile Handicap on Sunday at Golden Gate, but he was ecstatic about Eddie Delahoussaye’s performance on Igotrhythm in the $106,400 A Gleam Handicap at Hollywood Park.

“It was a brilliant ride,” said Frankel after the 2-1 second choice skimmed the rail to beat 7-1 shot Klassy Kim by a length in 1:21 2/5 for the seven furlongs.

What earned Frankel’s admiration was Delahoussaye’s customary patience. While Cat’s Cradle, who broke very slowly, and Chris Antley were moving up wide on the turn, Delahoussaye decided to wait with Igotrhythm.

When he called on the 4-year-old Dixieland Band filly, she responded for her third consecutive victory on the main track. In her only defeat in her last four races, she was third, beaten a half-length by Ski Dancer in the Las Cienegas Handicap on Santa Anita’s hillside turf course.

“When Cat’s Cradle rushed up, a normal rider would have tried to go with her,” Frankel said. “He just let [Cat’s Cradle] go and Igotrhythm cut the corner. If he goes with Cat’s Cradle, she gets beat.”

Owned by Edmund Gann, Igotrhythm has seven victories in 13 career starts.

“She broke well and we were laying third, running easily,” Delahoussaye said. “[Cat’s Cradle] passed me on the backside going into the far turn and my filly kind of dropped back. But I had a lot of horse. So I waited and waited.”

Not so super was the performance of 3-2 favorite Track Gal. After making the lead through a 22 and 44 3/5 half-mile, she stopped badly through the stretch and wound up last in the field of five. She finished 15 lengths behind Igotrhythm.

There had been plans to stretch Track Gal out after the A Gleam, but they may have to be put on hold after Sunday’s effort.

Prepping for the $500,000 Hollywood Turf Handicap on May 27, Northern Spur will be ridden by Chris McCarron in the 1 1/16-mile race, which also attracted Pollock’s Luck, Way Run, who scratched from Sunday’s San Francisco Mile, Silver Wizard, Unusual Heat and Golden Orb.
