Public Views Sought on Street Renaming
A hearing May 7 will seek public comment on a proposal to rename a street in honor of the late philanthropist and developer Leo Freedman.
The proposal, which has the tentative approval of the City Council, calls for Clementine Street-Manchester Avenue between Katella Avenue and Harbor Boulevard to become Freedman Way in February 1998.
The name change would affect 24 property owners.
There is a Freedman Way in the city already, but that will become Disney Way as part of the widening of the Santa Ana Freeway through Anaheim.
Freedman owned the Anaheim Plaza Resort, the Grand Hotel, Melodyland and the Celebrity Theater.
The Freedman philanthropic foundation, established upon his death in 1989, supports cultural programs and senior citizen activities.
