Nude Dance Club Proposal Rejected
Despite the threat from a pending lawsuit, the Simi Valley City Council has agreed unanimously to reject a proposed nude dance club.
Council members said the proposed club was too close to a Bible school and a youth karate club. The vote Monday upholds a Planning Commission decision.
There was some question whether people actually attend the Bible school, which opened quickly after plans for the club were announced, Mayor Greg Stratton said.
“But clearly there is a karate school nearby,” Stratton said, “and kids make up more than 72% of the clientele.”
The decision hinged on a municipal code that forbids such adult clubs from being within 1,000 feet of religious establishments or within 500 feet of businesses catering to youths.
Club developer Philip Young has already filed a lawsuit against the city after the council rejected plans for another club that was to be called The Dancing Bear. Young’s attorney, Roger Diamond, had agreed to suspend the lawsuit while the city considered this proposal.
The proposal rejected Monday was for the so-called Mirage Cabaret at Los Angeles Avenue and Sinaloa Road.
