A teenage transient charged with abandoning her infant daughter in the restroom of an Artesia hospital will be arraigned today in Bellflower Municipal Court.
Kimberly Denise Miller, arrested Monday in Santa Monica and held on $15,000 bail, is accused of leaving 8-month-old Joelle Nicole Miller in a restroom Friday afternoon at Pioneer Hospital. Staff members heard crying and found the baby on the floor next to a blue stroller. She was clothed and in good condition.
Joelle, now in the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services, was recognized by her grandmother during a television newscast Friday. Miller, 19, who has no permanent address, faces one charge of child abandonment, a misdemeanor carrying a maximum of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
