Decision Postponed on 183-Unit Project

The Westlake Village City Council has continued until May 8 a public hearing on an Irvine developer’s proposal to build 183 detached condominiums on a 23-acre site north of the Ventura Freeway.

The applicant, Western Pacific Housing, requested a two-week continuance to allow for more time to address concerns raised about the project, city officials said.

During a hearing on April 24, some city residents said the project would be too densely populated and would not have enough play areas for children.

The project would be located in the Westlake North Specific Plan, a 130-acre plot bordered by Lindero Canyon Road, Thousand Oaks Boulevard, the city of Agoura Hills and the Ventura Freeway.

City officials say the condominium project would be acceptable under the Specific Plan, which was approved in 1989.

Another developer, Westwood-based Kaufman & Broad Home Corp. has proposed a 160-unit single-family development in the Specific Plan area.

Tampa, Fla.-based Richland Westlake Ltd., which owns the land, has proposed revising the Specific Plan to reduce the amount of office and business park space in return for an increase in the number of residential units.

The revised plan would allow for as many as 450 housing units, city officials say.

The council is expected to vote on the matter this summer, said Robert Theobold, Westlake Village planning director.

The May 8 hearing will be at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall, 4373 Park Terrace Drive in Westlake Village.
