Colleges / Campus scene : Volunteer Builds, Donates Dollhouses
When Steven Kerr decided to seek a way to combine his background in the construction industry with his love of children, he came up with dollhouses.
An elementary education major at Orange Coast College, Kerr has built 10 two-story dollhouses, complete with furniture. He recently donated one to the OCC Children’s Center.
Kerr also gave one of the houses to the children at Kaiser Elementary School in Costa Mesa, where he works as a volunteer tutor through the college’s HELP Club.
Lucy Groetsch, director of the OCC Children’s Center, said the youngsters there “absolutely adore the gift.” The dollhouse is kept in the classroom, where it is used by the 4- and 5-year-olds.
