A Port Hueneme man and Oxnard woman were shot early Monday morning as they sat in a car outside a La Colonia home on East Second Street.

Carlos Vasquez, 33, and Patricia Escobar, 20, were sitting in Vasquez’s car outside Escobar’s home when a man who police say they suspect to be Marin Diaz Garcia walked up to the car and fired at least four shots at the couple through the passenger window. Vasquez was hit in the torso and arm, and Escobar was hit in the chest two times, police said.

Vasquez was listed in critical condition Monday night at Ventura County Medical Center and Escobar was listed in serious condition at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, hospital officials said.

Garcia, 36, of Port Hueneme was arrested in his car shortly after the shooting and booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder. His bail was set at $250,000.

Police said they have no motives in the shooting.

Escobar’s roommate, Flor Arreaga, 35, who dated Garcia, said that she and Escobar worked at a nearby bar, which Garcia was known to frequent. Vasquez is a roofer who lives in Port Hueneme with his wife and two children.
