Mark J. Ochenduszko, who has been city manager of Campbell, Calif., since 1992, will be the new city manager of Cypress, the City Council announced Monday night.
Ochenduszko, 41, will succeed Darrell Essex, who has been city manager for 34 years, a record for Orange County cities.
Essex will retire July 1.
Mayor Walter K. Bowman announced that 75 candidates had been interviewed for the job, and that the council’s vote in closed session was unanimous.
Ochenduszko’s contract is open-ended, and he will receive $115,000 a year, the same salary as Essex, City Atty. John E. Cavanaugh said.
Ochenduszko, who is married and has two children, has also been the city manager of Temecula.
