Cal State Fullerton Loses Again to Hurricanes

Cal State Fullerton squandered a six-run lead Friday and lost for the second consecutive day to Miami, 8-7, in Coral Gables, Fla.

The Titans, who have dropped 10 of their last 14 games, scored four runs in the first inning and a run in the second and third innings. But the Hurricanes came back by scoring four runs in the fifth and four more in the seventh.

Jerome Alviso and Jack Jones each homered for the Titans, who have dropped to No. 11 in Baseball America’s poll. Brian Loyd led Fullerton with two hits, two runs batted in and a run scored.

Sixth-ranked Miami (43-11) was led by Rudy Gomez, who was three for three and scored twice. The Hurricanes’ Allan Westfall (4-1) pitched one inning to get the victory and Robbie Morrison recorded his 11th save by pitching the final two innings.

Titan starter Brent Billingsley pitched six innings and struck out five, allowing seven hits and four runs. Reliever Mark Chavez (2-3) gave up three hits and four runs in two-thirds of an inning. Michael Greenlee gave up one hit in 1 1/3 innings.
