Burkes May Have Their Claim to Fame

Owners Gary and Tim Burke have made a lot of good claims-- and trips to the winner’s circle--over the years, but the best of them all is probably Comininalittlehot.

Taken for $80,000 on Feb. 29 at Santa Anita, the 5-year-old gelding has already earned over that figure and he became a stakes winner Sunday with an easy victory in the $109,400 Thirty Slews Handicap at Hollywood Park.

A lover of Hollywood’s turf course, Comininalittlehot was outrun early while kept wide by Corey Nakatani, then took charge in the final eighth of a mile to win by three lengths in 1:01 3/5 for the 5 1/2 furlongs. This was the fourth win in seven starts on the course for the 6-5 favorite and he now has two wins and two seconds in five races for the Burkes and trainer Mike Mitchell.
