Magazines Tout Oxnard as Tourist Destination

Oxnard’s efforts to portray itself as a desirable tourist destination are paying off, as the city finds itself featured in two magazines circulated outside the Ventura County area.
The city is described as “up and coming” in the May-June issue of Motorland magazine. Also featuring Oxnard as a coastal getaway with plenty of charm was the April issue of Inland Empire magazine.
Both stories were the outgrowth of a press trip to the city sponsored by the Greater Oxnard & Harbors Tourism Bureau.
The two-page feature in Motorland magazine--complete with color photographs--highlights Channel Islands Harbor, Heritage Square, the Carnegie Cultural Arts Museum, the Gull Wings Children Museum and the Strawberry Festival. In addition, Santa Cruz Island, Casa Sirena Marina Resort and Island Packers are mentioned.
The article in Inland Empire magazine, by freelance writers Donna and Ray Ott, also highlights many city attractions, in addition to plugging the Ventura County Food & Wine Festival and the Strawberry gala.
“We are working to attract more writers to our area so they can see for themselves what we have to offer,” said Carol Lavender, executive director of the tourism bureau.
The bureau organizes two media trips per year in addition to arranging itineraries for individual writers. The last group press trip centered on the Strawberry Festival.
