JETHAWKS REPORT : Catcher Shortage Unmasked

Share

The JetHawks were in a bind for catchers on Wednesday night. Scot Sealy has been unable to catch because of a dislocated thumb, and Dusty Wathan bruised his left wrist during Tuesday night’s game.

That left Andy Augustine to start the game and utility infielder Mike Lanza as the backup and only bullpen catcher.

“If [Augustine] gets hurt he’s going to get his [butt] kicked when he gets home,” joked Lanza, who shares an apartment with Augustine.

Right-hander Ken Cloude, who will start for the JetHawks tonight, has been looking forward to pitching since his last outing, when he pulled himself out of a slump with an eight-inning, three-hit, nine-strikeout game.

Cloude began the season with a 1.98 earned-run average in his first four starts, then he had a 4.95 ERA in his next four.
