Motel Guest Flees Robbers, Jumps From Third Story

Share

A wounded, naked man fleeing two armed robbers crashed through a third-story motel window early Thursday, tumbling to the concrete below and escaping with no major injuries, police said.

Tony Reed, a 48-year-old hairstylist from Las Vegas, was alone in his room at the 777 Motor Inn about 2:45 a.m. when a pair of gunmen broke in, according to Huntington Beach Police Lt. Dan Johnson.

Reed, who had “a substantial amount of cash” with him, told the armed robbers he had nothing, so one of them shot him in the arm, Johnson said.

Fearing for his life, Reed then dove through the rear window and fell to the pavement, where he feigned death until the men left, Johnson said.

“Nothing broke his fall on the way down, but he had no broken bones, no major injuries, just cuts and bruises and the gunshot wound,” Johnson said. “He just staggered into the lobby and asked for help. Maybe the 777 motel was lucky for him after all.”

The victim could not give police a good description of the men or their vehicle, Johnson said.
