Century Fund Honors Marine Killed in Crash

Share

A scholarship fund has been established to honor former Century High School student Jose Luis Elizarraras, who died in a military helicopter crash this month in North Carolina.

Elizarraras, a 20-year-old lance corporal in the Marines, died in a mid-air collision at Camp Lejeune that killed 14 military personnel.

Elizarraras, who graduated from Century in 1994, was remembered as someone who visited former teachers and fellow students whenever he returned home.

Scholarship money will go to college-bound seniors from Century who meet qualifications set by the family.

A brief memorial for Elizarraras will begin at 10 a.m. today at Delhi Park in Santa Ana, where a tree will be planted in his honor.

Contributions may be sent to the Jose Elizarraras Scholarship Fund, in care of Dollars for Scholars: Century High School, 1401 S. Grand Ave., Santa Ana, CA 92705.
