Arizona All-American Carrie Dolan scattered five hits and struck out three Friday as the Wildcats defeated UCLA, 4-0, in the NCAA Division I Softball World Series.

It was Arizona’s fifth consecutive victory over UCLA this season and only the second time the Bruins have been shut out.

Leading, 2-0, the Wildcats (56-9) added two more runs in the sixth inning when Jenny Dalton drew her fifth walk in six plate appearances to open the inning. The walk broke her NCAA single-season record for bases on balls with 61.

She eventually scored on a single by Krista Gomez. Michelle Churnock added an RBI infield single.

The Bruins (46-10) will face the winner of today’s Princeton-Southwestern Louisiana game in the double-elimination tournament.

Top-ranked Washington built a seven-run lead and held on for a 9-7 victory over California to join Arizona as semifinalists.

Washington (58-8) took a 9-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh, when the Bears scored five runs to make it close.

“We kept our composure and put pressure on Cal,” said Washington Coach Teresa Wilson. “Our strength is our good balance of hitters, and that one thing has helped to keep us successful.”

Cal (41-22) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning before Washington scored the next nine runs.
