Atlantic--Gary Burnham and Kurt Bultman homered for Clemson (48-15), which remained undefeated and moved within one victory of the championship with a 6-3 victory over West Virginia (33-24) at Clemson, S.C. In other games, Tennessee eliminated Georgia Southern (46-14) by winning, 6-1, and then Tennessee (43-19) eliminated West Virginia (33-25) with a 10-4 victory. Tennessee must beat Clemson twice today to advance to the College World Series.

South I--Andy Bernard retired the first 18 batters in pitching a four-hitter for Alabama (48-17), which beat Stetson, 3-1, at Tuscaloosa, Ala. Stetson (42-23) was eliminated when it lost to Virginia (44-20), 5-4, in 10 innings. Virginia earlier eliminated Notre Dame (44-18), 7-1. Virginia must beat Alabama twice to advance.

South II--Nathan Dunn hit two home runs and drove in six runs for top-seeded Louisiana State (47-15), which recorded a 17-4 victory over New Orleans at Baton Rouge, La. In other games, Georgia Tech recorded a 7-4 victory that eliminated Tulane (43-20). Then Georgia Tech (40-23) recorded a 12-7 victory over New Orleans (43-21). Georgia Tech must beat LSU twice today to advance.

East--Chuck Hazzard, playing with 16 stitches in his right cheek after being hit by a ball the day before, homered in the top of the 13th inning for top-seeded Florida (47-16), which beat South Florida (47-18), 6-4, at Gainesville, Fla. In other games, Massachusetts (40-18) eliminated Central Florida (43-22), 7-5, and the Minutemen scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the ninth to beat South Florida (47-19), 13-12.

College Notes

Sam Houston State’s Brad Prihoda was recovering from emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from his brain that was discovered after he slammed into the outfield wall during an NCAA Central I Regional game. Prihoda was injured in the sixth inning of Friday night’s 4-2 loss to Texas, but he finished the inning. He was later taken to a hospital.
