Man Questioned in Hit-and-Run That Killed Boy
A man police believe was responsible for the hit-and-run death of a 4-year-old South-Central boy two weeks ago was being questioned Sunday, authorities said.
The incident, in which the driver allegedly told the boy’s brother he would kill any witnesses who might identify him, outraged the community and inspired several hundred people to attend a candlelight vigil in support of finding the driver.
Daniel Maldonado was skateboarding May 13 in the driveway of his apartment building when he was run down by a suspected drug dealer, police said.
The driver allegedly got out of his car and watched the child die, police said.
Then he threatened Daniel’s teenage brother when the boy tried to write down the car’s license plate number. He snatched the paper out of the boy’s hand and told the teen he would kill any informant.
The identity of the man in custody was not disclosed, said LAPD spokesman Don Cox.
