Streets Closed by Factory Fire

BREA — Fire in a heating system of a factory at Puente and Columbia streets forced the closure of streets within about a three-block area for nearly three hours Sunday.
No injuries were reported.
The fire occurred about 2:40 p.m. at Winonics--a printed circuit board manufacturer--when a system overheated. A cleaning chemical spilled during the fire.
Six fire engines and two ladder trucks responded and a hazardous-materials crew was later called in to deal with what were feared to be toxic fumes.
“I wanted to be on the safe side in case anything went awry” Brea Fire Department Battalion Chief Dave Huffman said.
The fumes eventually were determined to be nontoxic, and the fire had been contained by an internal sprinkler system by the time firefighters arrived.
