John Abbott; Acted in Films, on Stage and TV

John Abbott, 90, British actor whose work on stage, screen and television ranged from Shakespeare to “Star Trek.” Born in England, Abbott made his stage debut in “Aurengzebe” in London in 1934 and quickly joined the Old Vic Company. His most notable Shakespearean role was Claudius in “Hamlet” with Sir Laurence Olivier, Vivien Leigh and Alec Guinness at Denmark’s Elsinore Castle. Abbott first appeared on screen in “Mademoiselle Docteur” in 1937 and went on to make more than 100 films, including “Mission to Moscow,” “Saratoga Trunk,” “Jane Eyre,” “Anna and the King of Siam” and “Gigi.” He appeared in hundreds of popular television series and became a “Star Trek” convention favorite after his stint on the original series in 1967. He recently completed a biography, “An Actor’s Imaginative Forces.” On May 24 in Los Angeles.
