Plate Tectonics

Doris Bell, designer of Pique Assiette ceramics, takes china that has met with some unfortunate accident and turns it into beautiful reborn dishware called broken plate mosaics. The technique is known as plate quilting and comes from France, not Los Angeles, so earthquake cleanup was not the inspiration. Bell’s reconstructed Pique Assiette ceramic plates are often more interesting than the originals. She also takes special orders so customers can choose the color tones and sizes of items they want.

With more creative people like Bell around, we fear that the word “oops” may disappear from the English language.

Available at Doin’ Dishes in Long Beach and Santa Monica.
