** Various artists, “Shots in the Dark,” Donna/Del-Fi. This tribute to the swingin’ tunes of Henry Mancini is loaded with tasty, familiar melodies. The lineup is uneven, but Poison Ivy of the Cramps still grinds “Peter Gunn Theme” to dust, while the Friends of Dean Martinez find a space-cowboy breeziness in “Lonesome.” Most inspired is singer Nan Vernon’s distant, drifting reading of “Moon River,” closing things with a fittingly romantic flourish.

Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
