Dr. Constance Bell Wofsy; AIDS Educator

Dr. Constance Bell Wofsy, 53, pioneering and internationally recognized educator of health care providers in dealing with AIDS patients. A graduate of UC Berkeley and USC School of Medicine, Wofsy in 1983 co-founded and was co-director of the AIDS program at San Francisco General Hospital. She created the AIDS Provider Education and Experience training program to train caregivers from around the world in treating those with HIV and AIDS. She also did much to call attention to women’s vulnerability to AIDS, co-founding the Assn. for Women’s AIDS Research and Education. She was an expert on infectious disease in general and wrote widely on the subject. On Monday in San Francisco of cancer.
