Applicants Sought for Two Panels in Laguna Beach

Residents interested in the arts or in land use planning have until Wednesday to apply for openings on two Laguna Beach commissions.

With six seats soon coming open--three each on the Planning and Arts commissions--the City Council will appoint new members on June 18.

Planning Commission members review development and other land issues and make recommendations to the council regarding zoning and subdivisions. Experience in land use planning, architecture, engineering or real estate would be helpful.

Planning commissioners, who serve two-year terms, meet on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. and at other times when necessary. Members are expected to commit an average of four to six hours a week to their duties and are paid $60 a month.

Arts commissioners advise the council on art-related matters, including the adoption of laws and regulations. A majority of the seven commission members must be actively participating in the arts.

The Arts Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of the month. They serve two-year terms and are paid $40 a month.
