The Kansas City Royals placed second baseman Bip Roberts on the 15-day disabled list and said pitcher Kevin Appier would skip at least one start because of arm tightness. Infielder Chris Stynes was recalled from Triple-A Omaha.

The Cincinnati Reds activated outfielder Eric Davis and put outfielder Reggie Sanders on the 15-day disabled list because of a sore rib cage. . . . The Colorado Rockies placed right-hander Bill Swift back on the 15-day disabled list because of recurring soreness in his pitching shoulder. . . . The Minnesota Twins activated pitcher Rick Aguilera from the 15-day disabled list and expect the veteran to start against the Seattle Mariners today. Aguilera, who made one start this season, was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of tendinitis in his right wrist on April 23. To make room for Aguilera, the Twins optioned pitcher Erik Bennett to Salt Lake of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League. . . . Ranger first baseman Will Clark continues to show improvement from his strained left quadriceps muscle, but sat out his third consecutive game Monday.
