Italy’s 1994 World Cup goalie Gianluca Pagliuca, veteran midfielder Massimo Crippa and striker Marco Branca were the three over-age players picked by Coach Cesare Maldini for the Italian Olympic team.
Pagliuca, who defended the Italian net in the World Cup final loss to Brazil in a shootout at the Rose Bowl, was available for the Olympic team after being dropped from Italy’s roster for the European Championship.
Crippa, 31, of Parma, is an experienced midfielder with the national team. Branca, also 31, had an impressive season, scoring 19 goals in Series A games.
