Police are seeking an Oxnard man who allegedly struck a police officer in the knee with a 20-pound metal bar after he was stopped for speeding.

Oxnard Officer Victor Boswell, 33, was treated for a bruised knee at St. John’s Regional Medical Center after the Monday night incident, police said.

His alleged attacker is being sought on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer. Police declined to identify the suspect or release further information, citing the ongoing investigation. The incident occurred at Colonia Road and Marquita Street after Boswell cited the man for speeding.

After discovering that the man had no insurance, registration or driver’s license, Boswell decided to impound his car, police said.

Incensed, the man tore up the citation, picked up the metal bar from a stack of tools Boswell had allowed him to remove from the car and threw it at the officer, police said. The man fled and Boswell was unable to give chase because of his injury.
