De La Hoya Makes Cut as Fan Favorite

If Julio Cesar Chavez’s sparring partner could inflict a cut that serious, just imagine how badly Oscar De La Hoya would have punished Chavez had the fight gone longer.

The differences between Oscar De La Hoya and Julio Cesar Chavez were not only evident in the ring, but outside when Chavez did not give credit to De La Hoya.

Would it have been so terrible to admit he had been beaten?

I felt going into the fight that the level of respect was way out of sync--too much for Chavez and far too little for De La Hoya.

Julio wants a rematch? Good idea. We can make up for that closed-circuit fiasco by putting it on free TV for all the world to see the great Chavez. There won’t be as much purse money available, so we’ll have to make it winner take all.
