Rancho Santiago Split Deplored

Share

We were dismayed to read the article “Rancho Santiago Satellite Campus to Get Autonomy,” May 22. The Rancho Santiago Board of Trustees waited until faculty were gone for the academic year, did not heed or hear recommendations by both the Academic Senate and bargaining union (which both criticize this move at this time) for a feasibility study, and selected the Orange campus for its board meeting rather than the usual site at the Santa Ana campus!

As faculty members, we abhor the manner in which this decision was made; we are concerned about the fiscal impact that this would impose at a time when the county government has difficulty managing its fiscal affairs. There were no representatives from the faculty and/or the public to speak out against this untimely, poorly thought out decision.

Are we angry? You bet we are! And, speaking of bets, want to bet that when the Santa Ana campus becomes Santa Ana College again, the Orange campus will be named Rancho Santiago College?
