A convicted felon suspected of shooting a HomeBase manager in the head in front of a crowd of customers is scheduled to be arraigned today, authorities said.

Daniel Carl Frederickson, 33, of Garden Grove, who is being held without bail on suspicion of murder, has been convicted four times in the last 15 years of a variety of felonies. In 1982, he was convicted of burglary, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment, court records show. Two years later he went to jail again for assault with a deadly weapon. He also received a jail sentence in 1987 for illegally possessing a firearm.

Garden Grove police arrested Frederickson in 1990 in connection with a robbery at a Vons supermarket, but a jury later found him not guilty, according to court records.

A year later, he and another defendant pleaded guilty to stabbing a man in connection with a $50 debt, records show. Frederickson was sentenced to four years in prison.

According to police, Frederickson had been wandering in the Bristol Marketplace store on June 13 for at least 30 minutes when he approached Scott H. Wilson, 30, of Costa Mesa and shot him.

The assailant apparently was trying to rob the store manager of the $50 he was holding, police said. But the killer fled without the money. Wilson died later that day.
